Extra Math Practice and Support
Everyday, after the math lesson and the day's work is assigned, I run the "math help centre" which is students joining me on the carpet if they need extra help. Quite often after a few questions the kids who were feeling confident feel better!
Also, everyday at silent reading time (also a quiet work block for those who choose to manage their time that way) is a great time for kids to ask for math help. It is DAILY 1:00 - 1:30. I always remind the kids as well at 1:00 they can pull out their math and ask.

English not the first Language?
If reading comprehension is lower in English than another language, reading content areas and research for projects can certainly be done in the first language, and translated later. This can ensure understanding, which eases project stress and makes it more relevant for the student.
For home research, Google can easily be translated into most languages. For example for Spanish, simply type, "Google Spanish" in the google search box. The first result should be Google in that language. Click it and it should take you there!
